Francis stiffened at the sound of Arthur's laugh. He withdrew his hands from Arthur, his hurt manifesting in the wounded expression on his face.
"Is that what I am to you?" His voice was low. "Just a second resort? I count as nothing next to liquor? You just mocked everything I'm offering you!"
Hands trembling, Francis stared at Arthur, stricken. "Was it a lie?" he asked quietly. "When you said you returned my love...did you lie? Am I just a - another alternative form of escape?"

And with that, Arthur's expression falls, his posture slumping completely and out of the rest of the other's grasp. His eyes are numbed, and he moves off the bed, standing up.
"told you i didn't know what love was." he mumbles. If Francis thought that he was being used as a last resort, used, then surely it must be right?
He moves towards the door.
"I'll go get thhat drink now."

Francis' chest suddenly felt tight. He couldn't believe that the pirate was walking away, after everything, after Arthur promised never to do that again. Was this Arthur's way of confirming that he had lied?
"I can't believe you," he whispered. "What have you done, Arthur?"
He swallowed. The pirate didn't seem to hear him. Was Arthur that far gone from Francis now? Too far for Francis to find and bring back?
"I didn't give up, don't you remember?" His voice was choked. "And you're not even trying! After - after you promised..."

Arthur just turns his head so he can give the other one last, blank look, before turning away and opening the door, exiting it. It gives a soft click as it shuts behind him, and Arthur can be heard walking straight out of the house.
If Francis doesn't believe in him, then why should he?
It's not like he ever knew what love was...
