Feliks stepped out of his door for some shopping; his burgundy everyday-dress swirled around him as he turned to lock the door. It was a beautiful sunny day, just perfect for walking, but the blonde still debated taking his car because he didn't know how much he planned on buying today. He mulled this over as he descended his front steps.
Feliks stopped up short on the last step when he noticed a dapper man on the other side of the street. The blonde knew that he lived on that side, a few houses down from his own. He also knew that the man dressed a bit to nicely for their neighborhood, so he must come from money. Green eyes sparkled as he hurried across the street to catch his neighbor and potential client.
"Beautiful day isn't it?"

Although he was usually an indoors sort of person, even Roderich hadn't been able to stay inside on this glorious morning. Whistling an unidentifiable tune under his breath, he bought a daily newspaper from a scraggly-looking boy on the street corner. He traveled back towards his apartment, rolling his sleeves up as he went, and couldn't help but smile as the sun gently caressed his exposed skin. Ink stained his thumb as he unfurled the paper, but he didn't mind. Reveling in the just perfectly mild morning, he leant against a lamppost and delved into the entertainment section.
He was several paragraphs into a review of an original play that had premiered earlier that week when a voice directed at him sounded out. When he looked up, the sun glared off his glasses, so he held up his hand as a makeshift visor.
"Beautiful day, isn't it?" a young woman greeted him as she waltzed up to him from across the street. He thought that maybe he'd caught sight of her before, but he wasn't very acquainted with his neighbors.
He folded his newspaper hastily, ignoring the real creases, and tucked it under his arm. "Indeed, it is," he agreed with a smile. "Forgive me, but you are Miss…?" he trailed off, hoping she would fill in her name.

Feliks fluttered his eyelashes, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear. "£ukasiewicz, call me Felicja, not many people can pronounce my family name." While Feliks frequently played the peppy, dumb blonde, he wasn't fond of it; he knew he was smarter than he made himself seem.
The Pole caught sight of the newspaper, "Ooooh, anything interesting? I particularly like gossip pages." The blonde laughed, he frequently made pocket change selling tidbits to the gossip writer, and peered in at his paper.

Roderich didn't even try to repeat her surname, for he had forgotten the foreign syllables as soon has he had heard them. Felicja rolled off the tongue quite easier, he had to admit, although it went against all his years of etiquette being drilled into him to call a near-stranger by her Christian name.
As she poked her head into his newspaper, he couldn't help but laugh. "Is there ever?" he retorted, even though he sometimes skimmed the gossip columns purely to marvel at the fact that some people were actually entertained by them. Apparently this girl was one of them, but she couldn't be blamed, he figured, for women seemed to like hanging onto these stories, for some bizarre reason.

"Sometimes. There was an interesting bit about the Mayor's wife just last week." Feliks stepped back, visually measuring his neighbor. "So, I've seen you around, but I don't think I've ever caught your name, sir." Feliks' business was in gossip, so he spent an inordinate amount of time spying on his neighbors. It was practice for watching people when he was at parties or about town. One has to keep these skills sharp.

Whatever little tidbit of gossip was circulating around didn't concern Roderich now, but he couldn't believe he'd forgotten his manners, especially in front of a lady. He had heard before that love was what sapped a man of his senses, but apparently, so did the sunlight on a golden morning such as this.
"Forgive me, Miss Felicja," he said with a self-deprecating breath of laughter. "I'm Roderich Edelstein, piano teacher and aspiring musician." And how he wished to jettison "aspiring" in that sentence. Someday, he reminded himself, trying to bolster his spirits after that embarrassing faux pas.
He started to ask after her occupation, but decided against it, for it was as likely for women around here to work as it was for them to be married and homemakers. If she wanted to bring it up, she would, he assumed, and instead pursued a different subject of conversation. He asked, conversationally, "How long have you been living in this neighborhood? I have seen you around a few times, but not too often."

Feliks giggled, "That would explain the string of young ladies that parade into your building." The blonde gave his neighbor a smirk and and fluttered his eyelashes. "I was wondering about that, a handsome man like you would certainly garner attention."
The blonde took a step back to gesture to his house, "My brother and I moved in a couple of years ago when we inherited it from our uncle." Feliks was proud of his house, he may use it to make money but it was his own.

Roderich smirked at Felicja's witty comment, shrugging his shoulders. Teacher-student relationships of any kind were personally off-limits for him, he had decided. And besides, he was far too busy trying to make a living and a name for himself to worry about women. Well, other than a friendly, neighborly chat with the one in front of him.
"It's quite nice," he remarked of her house across the street, nodding appropriately. "I'd always wondered who lived there, and it's nice to know for sure now." No, he had never given a thought about who lived in that house, and he was just now taking the time to take a good look at it. And now that he did, he realized that it was rather quaint, but still had a sort of regality about it.
In order to keep the fate of the conversation on the path of life, he asked, "You live with your brother?"

"Ohh, yes. We're twins and have always been together. And it's a large house, plenty of room for us to share. What about you?" Feliks blushed, he knew it was a forward question, but sometimes when searching for gossip you had to be forward. And you never really knew about musicians, they came in two flavors, generally, playboy or hermit. This neighbor of his didn't look like the hermit type, he was too well dressed.

Roderich blinked, a little hesitant to admit his bachelor status. But he figured that there was no shame in it; after all, he had no doubt that his parents had ascertained that everyone in the city's upper-class circles knew that he was still on the market.
"I'm an only child," he started warily. "And I'm not courting or married to anyone yet. But I'm not lonely--I have a cat." He left it at that, not mentioning that he was very nearly married to his work in music. Mother and father would have disapproved had he let that sleep, and although he had let them down often enough, the rules of conversation had been drilled too deep into him.
