It had, in all honesty, started out like any other day that Cousin had promised to spend with her. They slept later than they normally would, then ate breakfast together... then he'd allow her to help him with his chicks. She loved to hold the baby birds... they were so light and fluffy and tiny.
He'd asked if there was anything in particular that she wanted to do; she'd shaken her head no, and told him what she often did - that she was just happy spending the day together. And she'd expected that they'd do as they normally did; wander the town, looking through the market, or having a picnic in the garden, or some other such thing. So when he'd suggested they take a drive to the countryside, she'd at first been rather confused. What would they do in the countryside?
Apparently, one of his acquaintances had a farm... and this farm had animals - namely, rabbits. Wouldn't she like to go see them?
It had taken her less than half an hour to get ready (she'd chosen pink today, though it had been a close call between that and the green). Now Lili sat with Gilbert in the carriage, quietly peering out at the passing country landscape. Though she was quiet, she was also excited. Well, excited and nervous... she'd never been to a farm before! The ride was fairly short, somewhere around the span of twenty minutes from the edge of the city, and then they were turning down a dirt path.
Everything was so green! It made her want to pick up her embroidery now and stitch a picture of it - but now was not the time for that. Now was time to see the rabbits... and meet Cousin's acquaintance. The carriage would drop them off at the house, where she supposed that Cousin had arranged to meet Herr Carriedo - she really wasn't altogether too certain of the details. Though she was excited, she stepped from the carriage hesitantly, looking around her with thinly veiled curiosity and no small amount of trepidation.

Antonio finished the salad he was making for lunch and put it in his ice box to chill beside the milk. He’d have guests over for the evening and it wouldn’t do to feed them wilted food when lunch time came around. Especially since his best friend Gilbert was bringing his adorable cousin to visit as well. He was familiar with the girl from the times he’d visited their house, and the stops at his stall she’d make with an entourage frantically following along. Sometimes he was sure Gilbert acted so over-protective just to annoy Antonio.
The salad taken care of, he checked on the roast which would be for dinner later and then went to change into some more durable clothing. He’d get some gardening done before they showed up, maybe clean out a couple cages. He was pretty sure the stables at their home were much cleaner than his. So maybe he was fretting a little about this visit. He wanted Lili to remain fond of him though and if she disgusted with his house that wasn’t likely to happen.

Alright, to be honest....he was a little nervous. It was a change! Just a change, just a little change and wasn't a bad thing. Change was a nice thing, it didn't hurt or nothing...Gilbert noticed his reflection in the window frowning back at him....it knew he was a man stuck in his ways.
Once a month, ALWAYS once a month, (Twice if they were lucky) Gilbert would take an entire day to spend with his young cousin. No military business, no noble business, no tante Puta..hee hee... (He just learned that word last week....he liked it a lot) just them sometimes West, he was a much busier guy, having a day out on the town or at home. Something easy and casual, some 'family time'.
But that was what was different this time. It wasn't just 'family time'. This time, they were going to the residence of the very man that had taught the albino that colorful word. It was something new for Lili, a farm and the animals. The fact Antonio both owned and lived on it was a plus factor! Gilbert did like the man, they had become fast friends since that first little hiccup , that Shenanigan (It was totally a shenanigan. There was nothing else to call that meeting. Thanks Francis), but this was change.
HOWEVER....both Lili and Antonio were excited about the visit. The brunette had the obvious soft spot for Lili, and he was quite good at making her blush and smile, while still respecting boundaries of course...sides it was fun to fuss at the older man just for the hell of it too. His put out face was just too funny. Not that Gilbert would ever tell him that, then he'd know.
Squinting his eyes against the bright world outside the window, the albino watched as the pulled into the drive. With a light sigh he fixed his hat into place and smiled at the young, excited girl. "Looks like we're here, Lils." After the carriage came to a full stop he saw himself out of the vehicle and helped the little lady down.
...It was cute. The whole place. His lips twitched as he heard a pony whinny. They'd be spending whole day with Antonio, but Gilbert was sure it would a far from boring day. Giving the young girl's hand a happy squeeze he cracked a grin. "Lets go tell him we're here, huh?" And led her to the front door, calling out for his olive skinned (lucky bastard) friend. "OIIIIIII ANTOOOOOON!!!"

Lili smiled up at Gilbert as he spoke. "Ja. Let's." She was nervous and excited and curious and perhaps a little scared all at once. She'd come by the produce stall in the marketplace a few times with Gilbert before - and once or twice on her own, with her lady's maid... and was fond enough of Herr Carriedo, but they were at his house. What if they overstayed their welcome? She didn't want to inconvenience him. Especially because this farm was his livelihood. ... But he had rabbits. And horses, judging by the whinny she heard.
"OIIIIIII ANTOOOOOON!!!"
The girl winced slightly, peeking up at Gilbert with a faint pout. "Cousin... oughtn't we have knocked first, instead? Then we wouldn't have disturbed any of the animals." Not that she really knew for a fact whether the animals were disturbed or not - but the fact was, they might be. Of course, what was done was done, and no matter what, she had a feeling that her cousin would have done as he liked anyway.
He generally did as far as she'd been able to tell.

Antonio looked up from the hay he was shoveling into the horses stall, some bits and pieces of it in his hair and clinging to his close. Had he just heard Gilbert? Looking judgingly toward his house he decided that even if he hadn’t it wouldn’t hurt to check. So, after tossing one last fork-full of hay into the stall, Antonio moved toward his house. Taking a deep breath, he yelled back. “JAAAAAAAAAAAA, WAAAAAAAS IST DAAAAAAAAAAS?”
He was rather proud of himself for having learned his friend’s native language to the extent that he had. Antonio was by no means fluent, but he could understand most of what Gilbert said to him at this point; if only because his friend tended to use the same words often.
Slipping his boots off when he got to his back door, Antonio hurried through his house and opened the front, grinning widely at the sight of his friend and his cousin. “Hallo Lili, Gil.”

The albino's eyebrows knitted when he heard what he was pretty sure was a response....in his own tongue. It was always so weird to hear the brunette attempt to speak it. Not that that was bad or anything, it was just odd. Private conversations with Lili didn't feel so private anymore when he thought about Anton understanding them, nevermind the fact said Spaniard was rarely around when the two of them spoke to each other in said language, (Aside from some occasional scolding on Lili's part.) he would knoooooooooooow.
...He'd have to talk some smack about him or something and see his response. Heh.
Jarring back into present as the sound of footsteps coming from behind the door grew closer, Gilbert tensed, the motion barely noticeable and shifted his weight as if naturally to have Lili at least a little behind him. Being somewhere not entirely familiar with his young family member in tow had him slightly on edge. He was still new at this after all. But the moment that door opened and Antonio's familiar smiling face greeted them, the albino's tension left him. "Hola, Anton."
Looking from the man in the door way down to his cousin and back, he squeezed the girl's hand lovingly again, giving the other a wide lopsided grin. "We're here to see your farm." Bringing an overdramatic hand to his face he hid his lips from Lili and spoke in a stage whisper, "Namely the bunnies"

Lili was still nervous. It was strange, really... She'd been to noble houses before - many of them, in fact. And oftentimes, Gilbert wasn't with her. So, then, why was it that today, when she was visiting a farm, owned by one of Cousin's friends, that she would become a bundle of nerves? Perhaps it was that Herr Carriedo mattered... he was Cousin's friend, and Lili wanted him to continue to think kindly of her, and Cousin, and goodness she didn't want to interrupt his work or inconvenience him at all.
So when the footsteps came closer through the house, she had to scold herself silently to stop biting her lip. At least she'd managed before the door opened and Herr Carriedo smiled out at them.
"Hallo, Lili, Gil."
Though it would have made many other noble girls her age puff up and demand an apology for omitting her title, it set Lili further at ease, assisted by Gilbert's gentle squeeze to her hand. "H-Hallo, Herr Carriedo... Danke schön for having us to visit." She smiled up at the Spaniard hesitantly, shy as usual and polite as ever. When Gilbert 'whispered,' Lili perked up almost imperceptibly. She did love bunnies... Perhaps she'd have one of her very own one day.

Pulling a surprised face at the mention of bunnies, Antonio flicked his eyes in an obvious manner to Lili. “You told her I had bunnies? Dios mio, let me run into town and buy some!” He gasped and patted his pockets like he was looking for his money, then pulled a face as Lili called him Herr Carriedo. “What did I tell you chica? I’m not that old, call me Uncle Toni!”
Realizing he hadn’t invited them in yet, Antonio stepped aside and made a grand gesture for them to come in. “Please, come inside and relax some. I know the long ride out here couldn’t have been fun! Dios mio, I really need to get out there and fill in the holes in that road.” He closed the door behind them and bounced a little, over-excited to have people over since he almost never has visitors. “Are either of you hungry or thirsty?”

Jutting his lip out in his best pout Gilbert scoffed as if put out, "But you told me you had bunnies! I wanted to see the bunnies!!...And my babies." He missed his birds. He held in the smile at his friend's discontent with his cousin's trained insistence to be formal. He was glad she was such a polite little thing but there was no need with family and close friends. They would undo that habit yet!
Taking the invitation the albino let out a soft cackle, "Man those friggin holes!" (He didn't remember any potholes) as he scooped up the petite little blonde, princess style, and waltzed them into the house, twirling around once, before setting her on her feet again. Removing his protective hat he turned back to the dark haired man, the other's excitement was easily contagious as he too bounced on he balls of his feet lightly and took the chance to observe the room. It was very homey, something he liked about smaller places. Not that there was anything wrong with Lili's house mind you. "Oh ja! I could go for somethin' on the rocks, just a lil one." Skinny as he was Gilbert both could and did handle his alcohol. He had no intention of getting drunk, but a little drink? Why the fuck not? He was off and going to enjoy this day.

All this talk about bunnies was making the girl nervous... if Herr Carriedo didn't have bunnies... then... then she didn't know when she'd ever get the chance to see one up close. And she did so want to see a bunny... As Toni made a face, Lili flushed faintly. "I-I'm sorry... U-Uncle Toni." It was just that she wasn't ever sure when to call him by that name, and when not to... It never occurred to her that there might never be a time to not use that name.
She squeaked involuntarily in surprise as Gilbert scooped her up, clinging to his shirt as he spun. When he placed her back on her feet, she immediately set about smoothing her skirt and making herself presentable again - not that there was a hair out of place, but this, too, was a behavior ingrained in her so deeply that even coaching might not get it to go away. That done, she looked around, then smiled up at Toni. "Y-your home is lovely." It... it felt and looked lived-in, something that very few of the rooms at her house ever achieved.
A drink? "O-oh... i-if you've tea or water, th-that would be enough for me." She didn't have a preference which... mostly because she didn't want to trouble him to make tea if he didn't have it. Besides... she wanted to see his farm.
