R ODERICH EDELSTEIN
° N-ame || Roderich Edelstein
° A-liases || Roderich prefers his actual name to nicknames. He has been called however, Rod, Roddy, and other forms of his name, albeit hating them and not responding to them.
° A-ge || Twenty-eight years old
° G-ender || Male
° F-amily || His mother, Maria Kaiser Edelstein (npc) and of course his father Rudolph Joseph Edelstein (npc). He does also have uncles and extended family, but Roderich prefers to not deal with them.
° E-ye color || A blue-violet shade that is nearing indigo on the color spectrum.
° H-air color || A sienna brown, that he happens to take time to style so that he may not look plain. Therefore, instead of his straight hair, he works it to be more wavy, save for a strand that just seems to refuse to be styled.
° H-eight || 173 centimeters, or approximately 5'7".
° W-eight || 176 pounds
° D-efining features || Roderich happens to have a small mole located under his lips, which he calls a beauty mark showing his "pedigree". He also wears a pair of silver spectacles, considering this one of his many ways to prevent himself from looking plain and more sophisticated.
° A-dditional features ||
Roderich is by a nobleman and gentleman by birth and lifestyle. He has neatly done sienna brown hair, with a curled hair that stands up on his head refusing to be fixed. Behind a pair of dignified looking spectacles, lie eyes that are a shade of blue-violet, approaching dark indigo. They easily show the emotion that Roderich feels at times, whether be it anger, pain, or happiness. These eyes are accented by the dark, well arched eyebrows and his strong chin. There is a slight curve of his Roderich's nose that gives him semi-aquiline look. His lips are often tight and set in a perpetual frown, but he does have time when he smiles.
Roderich has a fairly pale demeanor and does take a while to get that rusty golden of a tan. His skin is soft and has a smooth complexion, one that most women would dream of having for cosmetic lines. Normally he has a powder white sleeved shirt that he wears a deep navy blue tailcoat complete with frills and a starched cravat. He usually wears tan or black dress pants which are tailored perfectly to him and the black boots that go up to his knees that were made just for riding. He has a military uniform, and will occasionally wear that if necessary for the function or his destination.
° J-ob || Dignitary full time, with a side job of private instrumental tutor.
° R-eason for current profession || All Roderich's life he has been raised to serve his government to the best of his ability. He now serves as a dignitary to residing countries all across Atheros, and sometimes even a dignitary to the people of Granor. Yet his life would never be complete without music; because of this Roderich took up position on being a tutor in the musical arts he himself had mastered since childhood. Now he serves to teach fellow Draconians and Nobles alike to embrace their more musical side.
° D-istrict || Roderich's home currently resides in the Noble Residential District, but he spends as much time in other districts as well, such as in North Granor.
° P-ersonality ||
Baldassare Castiglione, author of The Book of the Courtier in 1528, wrote of the ideal way aristocracy or the nobility should live their lives and act around the public. If you look at the way that Roderich Edelstein acts, you can see how deeply engrained these ideas are in his personality because of his noble birth. As Castiglione said, “nobles should posses a classical education and adorn his life with the arts.” Roderich lives by this idea, having a more serious focus more on his music than anything else for him, and doing more with his musical hobbies than actual work as he should. Also, there is a certain grace that he has, with eloquent speech or the dignity he seems to hold while he walks somewhere. Most of the time when he speaks, he has a distant tone, one that is sort of aloof, which can cause others to feel uncomfortable and as though they are not as good as him. Because of this, he does not have many friends.
There are times though that Roderich seems to not fit that noble attitude, especially in fear or anger. Oftentimes, simple mistakes, such as a mistake in a piece of music to faulty information from his family, can fling him into a very scary rage. When this rage occurs though, almost always he will go and play Chopin to express his anger, with something maybe like Étude Op. 10, No. 12, Revolutionary. But when he is not able to play to release that anger that is pented up inside of him, he just bursts and usually yells at whoever is the closest person near him, making them just a victim. This, since he can have a fairly short fuse to start with, again causes people to maintain their distance from the man.
When it comes to fear though, there is again, a totally different side of Roderich that very few, if any have ever seen. There are simple things, such as violence even on others rather than himself to his fear of things such as the beach with marine life. Normally he’ll just start shaking which may possibly be come violent in movement, some tears will come from him, and he may end up screaming a bit like a girl. Nobody really knows why exactly he acts like this when he’s afraid, other than perhaps it was what he got used to as a small child.
° L-ikes ||
• Any variant of musical instrument he can get his hands on. If he can play it and produce a good quality of sound from it, Roderich is pleased.
• Gardening; it's a secret hobby of his that he hides, but he is rather gifted with a good green thumb.
• Cooking, especially baking. As much as his father looks down on him for possessing a rather feminine skill, Roderich loves to cook. Baking is his one of his top two past times, especially when working on cakes.
• As much as he loves to cook, he enjoys fine dining as well. The rarest and choicest cuts of meats, the best of produce (though he could argue the best produce came from his gardens of course), the freshest of breads and dairy.
• Believe it or not, Roderich is somewhat of a collector of books; he enjoys reading the history of his family, land and even of Atheros itself. Yet that does not stop him there– He collects books of all kinds, published by all variants of authors: Draconian to Ruuthian, from Granor to all other lands.
° D-islikes ||
• Lack of manners and respect are insult to Roderich. If one does not address him properly, or politely, he will become either enraged or insulted and not wish to speak further to you.
• Roderich finds Alcohol something rather disgusting. While yes, he is a social drinker, he tends to only have a glass or two. He knows the effects of what alcohol does to people, and the brunet would prefer to prevent any of that happening to him.
• He dislikes people who are below him that do not treat him properly. Roderich believes that people need to know their places in society, and as being near the top of the food chain, he should be treated as such.
• A lack of cleanliness also somewhat disturbs the man very much. How can one just sit in their own filth and find it natural? Who knows what it can do to the body?
° F-ears ||
• Roderich happens to have a severe case of Thalassophobia: the fear of the ocean and all creatures in it. He is utterly disgusted by whatever lives in the water (things go to the bathroom in there, and that is far from being healthy, clean and decent) along with the actually water itself.
• He has an unnatural fear of anything dirty, or worse, infected with some sort of disease. It bothers the brunet when his orders of the day are to speak to the people of the Southern districts.
• Roderich detests talk of his family. He is always worried people will be quick to judge him and compare him to his father. Then again, he is no Rudolph Edelstein, even if that was all he was ever taught to be.
• Strangely, Roderich has a deep fear of failing under his family's name. How can the Edelstein name remain an important word in government if he were to make a mistake?
° G-oals ||
• Roderich wishes once more to be able to try and learn how to play the guitar. Such an interesting instrument, yet he has absolutely a horrid time playing it.
• To become the best government official possible is a dream Roderich is constantly wishing to achieve. His father is a well known name, as was his grandfather. If only he could achieve this same level of importance.
• It is surprising to think, but Roderich truly wishes to settle down and just have some sort of a relationship with people. While he's not desperate, it is rather hard to find time when one is so busy with work.
• It has always been a dream of the man to have some sort of family. Roderich understand the importance that he has children, specifically a son to carry on the family affairs and business when he passes on.
° H-istory || From as long as the world could remember, the Edelstein family stood as one of the glowing pinnacles of aristocracy in all of Granor, serving the royal cause. Such had been the life of Roderich's grandfather, of Rudolph Edelstein, and of course the next generation. Marriage for Rudolph was necessary to continue the family lineage, and Maria Kaiser was of the perfect pedigree for the family name. The two wedded, and a new family began shortly afterwards.
Roderich was born on a nippy fall evening only a couple of years after the glorious wedding. A healthy son the nurses had told his father, who was delighted that he had been gifted a son and a future heir to the Edelstein family name and duties. Besides, not only did the Edelsteins now serve under the Leader, but had been blessed with an opportunity to own a instrument manufacturing company; Edelweiß Strings and Co. Now there was no fear for the family fortune being lost with a lack of a son. In fact, Roderich would receive only the finest tutors in the maths, sciences, languages other than his own native tongue, slowly as a child being groomed for his position of not only sole proprietor of a major musical industry, but for his higher purpose as a Draconian noble.
He was only six when Roderich's father took him for the first time to the family business, but the memory was magical enough to be forever remembered by the brunet. His father, the main floor of the building, and the strange shapes that he knew were instruments surrounded him. "Son, one day this will all be yours. Surely you show interest in these instruments?" Violet eyes gleamed in delight, pointing to different instruments to learn what they were. He found the piano most fascinating–leading to his father starting him with lessons only months later.
But the boy's love of music seemed to be impossible to satiate. Piano was never enough and slowly he began to learn how to play more and more of the other instruments his father would be selling and eventually came to not only be proficient in piano but most stringed instruments, the oboe, flute, bassoon, french horn, and trumpet. In fact, it was these instruments that encouraged his original dream of wanting to be a musician. He would practice whenever he could in his spare time every day, creating beautiful sounds his mother and father, or their friends would enjoy.
When Rudolph found out though his son wished to abandon the family business, all music was stopped. Lessons were ended for Roderich immediately, and the instruments confiscated. His son would be a business man, and the dignitary his father had as a position in the government. The studies of English, science, language, math and now newly added government classes were intensified, and slowly Roderich came to realize his position. He would never be a musician, nor was it appropriate for someone of his bloodline to mingle as such with the minorities. It was a belief he now keeps to himself permanently, and the brunet looks down on others who wish for equality and such.
When he turned eighteen was when Roderich was taken to the head of the dignitaries and presented before the board. Application approved, he was granted job as dignitary for Granor in the outer lands. "Paperwork everyday," he was told, but none the less Roderich accepted the position, doing his duty. Until he was introduced to a new idea. Surely, as he was never overly busy, he would never be in trouble for giving private lessons with music would he? And his father had already decided to turn the family business over to more trusted hands until he was far older...one or two students wouldn't be too bad would it?
Except when one or two turned to eight or nine, and later twelve to thirteen.
° R-oleplay example || (Sample taken from a drabble I've written that is a crossover with Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan. If you don't know the book, I would honestly suggest you read it as it's incredibly good and is a Steampunk based series during the first World War.)
If there was one thing that Roderich Edelstein absolutely abhorred, it was dealing with the crown prince.
Not that Aleksander was a horrible boy; far from it. He was well behaved and taught so by the finest of tutors in the world. He could converse to a person not only in his German, but French, English, Italian and Hungarian along with reading Latin, Greek and Russian. Not only was he book-smart on the way the world’s mechanisms labored, but was versed in military strategy and planning. And while this boy was kept sheltered for much of his life, it was this evening that everything would change.
Klopp and Volgner had the boy in their charge. Of course he could trust them now with the single heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Nothing would happen to him, and the Empire would remain as it was. And yet even with these thoughts in mind, some sort of nagging was in the back of his mind, poking its fork into all the dark nooks and crannies of the Austrian’s mind.
There was a possibility he would be killed like his father and mother.
There was a chance that the war would end and the Emperor would take power and never relinquish it to the true heir. That could even lead to a bloody and dangerous power struggle.
There was hazard that the prince just wouldn’t care to come back to the position waiting for him.
They kept coming to him, wafting around his head like the diesel smoke surrounded the cockpits of any good walker that was in use–they would drown out all other thoughts until the persistent feeling of worry was either accepted or somehow disproven to be true.
Why then hadn’t Roderich gone with the prince in Volgner’s stead? Surely with him along Alek’s travels would occur at a greater speed than without someone with such good diplomatic immunity. And here the brunet had already been at wages on this eve of war, talking to England, France, Russia and even over to America about his situation. Germany had made a mistake by allying itself with Austria-Hungary, and those that had assassinated Ferdinand and his wife all too well had explained how the German Kaiser along with the Emperor had both been behind the attack. No, this was a family war, not some international problem that the triple Entente needed to involve themselves with. Therefore, nobody was to touch Alek, and if found, immediately helped so that he may take what was rightfully his.
° U-sername || My name's Elisabeth, but generally, people call me Rod, Roddelstein, Roddy, Liz or Lizzie. I'm used to a ton of different nicknames though, so anything that people latch onto, I'm generally ok with.

°W-hat is the secret phrase from the Rules? || Shoot, it was some part of the Fourth Brandenburg Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach…either Presto or Andante. And I'm too lazy to look it up on my iTunes.
