The first detail that anyone who meets Elise notices is her ready smile. It reflects her amicable quality and open outlook on people and on life. People easily take to her warmth and eager generosity, which serves Elise well as she genuinely loves to meet and befriend new people.
What sustains her friendships and acquaintances is her sunny disposition. An optimist through and through, she prefers to see the best in people and in most situations. Yet as idealistic as she is, Elise is not naive. She recognizes her own problems and will not shy away from dealing with them. She is also aware of the difficulties the majority of the people of Atheros are struggling with and how it is caused by the tensions between the factions of the land.
Since she was young, Elise had cultivated a sense of independence, which grew stronger when she began to live alone. She had been trained to rely on the people around her as a child, but it never suited her. She always had her own preferences and opinions, which she seldom compromises.
For all her many interests, Elise takes pride in her work. Even her job did not entail what she loves to do, she still makes an effort to accomplish the task to the best of her ability and will not stop until she is satisfied.
Other than pushing the boundaries of her abilities, she also tends to push into the boundaries of other people's personal business. Though she has the best of intentions and is naturally curious, her nosiness and her habit of meddling can upset people. She especially prides herself in playing matchmaker, though her successes with those projects are few.
Since she values honesty, especially in herself, she has a tendency to be overly blunt. She is often direct and clear on her feelings, whether it be anger, sadness, or romantic. She could also irritate or even offend someone with her frankness without meaning to, and coupled with her mule-headed stubbornness, sometimes lands into trouble because of it.

° H-istory ||
Born Elise Janssen, she was the middle child of a prosperous landowner and his wife. Her father held several farms in the countryside, and so she grew up well away from the hustle and bustle of Granor. She lived a relatively contented childhood in the farms, even if her parents' rigidly traditional attitudes required her to behave as properly and passively as possible - which she failed at.
Because her parents had their children late in life, she was only nineteen when they passed away of natural causes. As tradition dictated, ownership of the farms and the majority of the family's money were inherited by her older brother. This left her very few options for her future, which included either marrying or staying with her brother to help with the management of the land. She chose to stay with her siblings for the time being, having found no one she loved enough to marry.
But it wasn't long before she began to feel stifled in her old home, under her brother's guardianship. The fact that there were many pointed suggestions and remarks about being required to marry soon only troubled her even more. Tensions between her brother escalated for a year until a dispute motivated her to move away.
She packed her bags and bade her siblings and her beloved farms goodbye. She stayed at an inn in Granor that night, where she mulled over possibilities for making a livelihood for herself. Knowing her talent for and enjoyment in making pastries, she decided to open a patisserie. She also decided to change her name to begin her life anew.
She bought the space and materials with all the money she had inherited, struggling with her fledgling business for a few months before it steadily flourished. Four years later, Elise now owns the most successful sweets shop in Granor, where its confections are highly sought-after.

Window displays were tricky. The exhibited displays were supposed to be mouth-watering enough to entice, but must promise better, more scrumptious treats inside the shop. Elise frowned in concentration and assessed her choices. Should she place the cream puffs between the chocolate eclairs and Napoleons as a transitional piece, or the apricot flan for more color?
Chewing her lip, she decided on the flan instead and straightened up. She was about to turn back and carry the plate of cream puffs into the kitchens when she caught sight of face pressed against the window. She peered over the tower of truffles and found a small boy, his stare fastened on the plate in her hand. There was no mistaking the longing on his face.
Elise didn't think twice about striding to the door, opening it, and waving at the boy.
"Hello!" she said brightly. "Why don't you come on in?" She beckoned to him. "Come on," she coaxed in a softer tone, hoping not to scare him away.
She smiled when the boy scurried into the shop, avoiding her eyes. He was a little grubby and rough-looking, but Elise didn't mind. Leading him toward one of the tables, she pulled out a seat for the boy and set down the plate. She couldn't help but grin at how the boy's eyes widened.
"Go ahead." She hoped her expression was encouraging. "It tastes good, I promise."
When the boy took this as a signal to devour the cream puffs, Elise had to stifle a chuckle. "You must have had a rough day, poor thing." She reached out tentatively and ruffled the boy's hair. "Next time, don't be a stranger. Come in whenever you want to, and I might just have a treat for you. I'm Elise, by the way," she added.
She lit up when the boy finally met her eyes and and gave her a small smile.
