C onstantijn van Coevorden
° N-ame || Constantijn van Coevorden.
° A-liases || Captain van Coevorden, Stijn.
° A-ge || Twenty-seven.
° G-ender || Male.
° F-amily || Father, older brother, younger sister. Mother deceased.
° E-ye color || Emerald green.
° H-air color || Sandy blond.
° H-eight || 6’2” (roughly 190cm)
° W-eight || 12st 7lbs (or 81kg, 178lbs)
° D-efining features || A large scar across the base of his back he received in a farming accident before moving to Atheros, and a smaller one on his forehead he got during a game of dares with his brother.
° A-dditional features || He has taken to slicking his usually unruly hair back and tying it into a short pony tail in an attempt to play the part of the nobleman. In private moments or when ‘off duty’, as it were, he prefers to stick it up, to keep it out of his face.
° J-ob || Captain in the Atherosian army.
° R-eason for current profession || As the second son, it was seen as uncomely for Constantijn to take over the family legacy, even though he was the obvious choice – his brother was lazy and made no secret of his gambling addiction – and so he was encouraged to join the army, on the unspoken agreement that if it didn’t work out, he would be forced into the priesthood. Determined to avoid this, Constantijn rose through the ranks relatively quickly, and was marked to be promoted again quickly. His pay is supplemented with a monthly allowance from his father.
° D-istrict || Military district, with occasional leave spent with his family in the Noble District.
° P-ersonality || On the whole, Constanijn has been ultimately dissatisfied with his life since his father made his fortune and moved the family from its native land. This, coupled with a distrust of religion that fuelled his reluctance to enter the clurgy, spurred him on to work hard at his post. He had always been physically fit from working on the farm he grew up on, so drills and other such training were not a problem – his father’s wealth gave him an edge a lot of the other regular soldiers because he was marked to be fast-tracked for officer’s training as soon as he signed up; this meant that he was entitled to be present at a lot of the parties his father threw for their neighbours. When he is off duty, Constantijn often likes to regain a feel for the simpler life of his youth, and rents a room in one of the poorer districts or down by the docks under a pseudonym and tells his family that he is in the country, relaxing. Although it could be said that he is relaxing, the combination of opium, alcohol and prostitutes is not the ‘fresh air’ he claims to be yearning for.
° L-ikes ||
•Expensive, imported whiskeys.
•Privacy, though this is a commodity in short supply while in the army barracks.
•Works of art, and likes to spend at least a little time while on leave to look around galleries, before leaving for ‘the country’.
•Tulips, because they remind him of home.
•Animals.
° D-islikes ||
•His brother’s laziness, and the fact that he will essentially be in charge of Constantijn’s life when their father passes on – at least financially.
•Being subordinate to people he views as inferior on a more general level.
° F-ears ||
•His double-life being exposed, and his family finding out about his addiction to opiates.
•His little sister Mariëtte being disappointed in him, or worse still, hating him.
° G-oals ||
•His ultimate goal is to achieve a high enough rank in the army so that his wages can sustain his lifestyle, so that he does not have to depend on anybody, without sacrificing any of his luxuries.
° H-istory ||
Constantijn van Coevorden was born in a small town in the North East of the Netherlands, where his family owned a thriving farmstead. The farm had been passed down through the countless generations of the van Coevorden family, and working there gave Constantijn a great sense of pride and achievement. He was often described as talented at what he did, he had a great rapport for the animals and was a skilled horse rider, and he was a diligent worker
When Constantijn was 16 years old, his mother died – suddenly an unexpectedly. The shock hit their family hard, and their father became withdrawn and began to focus more on his work in town than the family and even the farm, which was left under the care of Constantijn’s uncle. This meant that Constantijn spent most of his time with his little sister, who was two years old at the time. he practically raised her, as a result of his father’s absence and Anton’s lack of interest.
Almost a year later, his father’s business began to take off in a way none of them ever imagined, and a post became available for him overseas.
[History not quite finished, had to be restarted due to... well, reasons]

«Do you have to go right away?»
Constantijn looked up from packing his trunk towards the doorway of his lavish bedroom to see his fourteen-year-old sister standing there, looking somewhat solemn. He sighed. «I’m sorry, Mariëtte. If I don’t leave now, there’ll be no point in going at all. It takes time to travel out there,» he lied, knowing he’d be unpacking the very same trunk in less than two hours, «Another time, I promise.» He could see in her eyes that she wasn’t convinced – and he couldn’t blame her, he’d used that same line before, and he never really meant it. He couldn’t help but feel guilty, he knew that relations between his two siblings were strained to breaking point, but he just couldn’t face staying in this house for too long. He had been back for a night already and it was proving to be too much for him to bear. She stood, studying him for another moment or two.
«Okay. I suppose if it cannot be avoided… I suppose I shall have to make the most of you on your return, then. I trust you’ll be back for the ball?» she said, he nodded his response. «Very well, then.» she said, turning and walking off down the corridor. Constantijn just sighed and finished packing his trunk with the simple clothes he kept for going on his visits to ‘the country’. He turned to look out of his window again, wondering if it would be absolutely necessary to announce his departure to his brother; his father was away on business, he thought he could dispense with the formalities. He turned towards the door – somebody would fetch the trunk for him, only to find his older brother staring at him silently from the doorway.
«You’re leaving, then,» he said, flatly. Constantijn simply nodded. «I see. Well, enjoy your trip.»
«Dank je wel,» Constantijn said, his brother scoffed.
«Oh please. Let’s hope the fresh air will force the last of that stupid language out of your head. It’s so… unrefined,» said Anton, turning and striding off down the hall – the clack of his boots could be heard echoing around the empty rooms of the large house. Constantijn shook his head and followed him out, nodding to the servant who had been standing near the door, waiting to be summoned.
