The moment chaos erupted, Francis grabbed the ankle of the Ruthian forcing him down and twisted it away. He scrambled to his feet, seizing a pistol for another Ruthian after a blow to his face. Two pulls of the trigger and the man was writhing on the ground, clutching his shoulder and thigh.
Francis spun on his heel just as yet another man shoved him down. Staggering, Francis lunged at him, receiving an elbow to his nose. Another gunshot, and the man was dead at his feet.
There. Just beside the Ruthian leader, was a straight opening out of the alley. He pushed his way toward the opening, shooting at any who reached for him, and grabbed Arthur's hand. But just before he could make it, the leader seized Francis' coat and pulled him back.
With one last effort, Francis pushed Arthur out of the fight and turned to face the leader. He was panting, cut, bruised, and sporting a broken nose, but he was going to fight the leader to the death to help Arthur escape.

The Ruthian Leader could only smirk, holding out a dagger as he approaches the noble.
"Aw, protecting your boyfriend now? Oh, the rumours that could fly, Bonnefoy~ They could ruin you. Ruin everything you are. But no matter, you won't be around to see it."
He lunges and grabs Francis before he can retaliate, and they go crashing to the floor. They tumble and toss, and he pins Francis underneath him, the dagger against Francis' throat.
"I admit you put up a fight, for a Noble. But you're still not good enough--"
He chokes, and dies.
Arthur stands above him, having pierced the sword through his back and heart. He grumbles.
"You talk too much."
A moment later and he grabs Francis, pulling him up. They're running a moment later.

Francis was still breathless from the fight, but he paid it no heed. His blood was pumping with rage and relief, fueling his every step away from the Factory District. As he ran, he made sure Arthur was with him, still fearing that the pirate would disappear or collapse from a fatal wound.
Francis swallowed his fear and ran on. He only realized, when he turned the corner, that he and Arthur had headed into the outskirts of the city. Francis fell against the wall under a broken street lamp, gasping for breath. He forced himself to trudge a little further toward Arthur.
"Are you hurt?" he panted between breaths.

Arthur had been deathly quiet the whole way through, since they'd left the Ruthians. He could barely process what had happened. He was amazed, now that he thought about it, that he hadn't flipped out in panic. He nearly lost Francis. He nearly lost Francis.
Francis nearly died for him.
As the other approached him, he trembled, and suddenly struck the nobleman across the face, reeling him to the floor. He shook.
"You idiot." He hisses, his eyes hard. A moment later and they break. "You idiot. What... what the bloody hell were you thinking?"
He sinks to his knees pathetically, and shoves at him. His expression is young.
"I-Idiot. You idiot. Idiot. You shouldn't have done that. Y-You shouldn't have tried to save me. Y-You shouldn't--- you idiot you---" he grabs at Francis' shirt, finding he wants to kiss him, that he wants to hit him, that he wants to just, just--- "Fucking idiot-- what the fuck were you thinking doing that? H-How--How the fuck could you expect to leave me alone like that---"
Before he can help himself, he's buried his head against the Nobleman's chest. He's sobbing.
"i would've been alone--"

With fire still racing in his veins, Francis' first instinct was to retaliate with a strike. But Francis suppressed it and crumpled around the pirate pressed against him. As the heat cooled away and exhaustion took over, Francis held Arthur carefully.
"You know why I had to do that," he whispered. "You've known since the day I left your ship."
He rested his cheek on Arthur's hair, breathing evenly. In his head, he chanted his thanks that Arthur was still alive, over and over...
"I never wanted to leave you alone." He sighed, his grip on the pirate tightening. "I wanted to keep you alive."

Arthur can only cling to the Noble almost as a child would do to it's mother after it had had a large fright. His shoulders tremble and it feels like he's just found Francis again for the first time.
"idiot --- idiot --- y-you would've left me alone -- I would've been alone -- you'd be gone --"
His gloved fingers, slightly stained with blood, grip at his shirt. His head is buried away, hiding.
"--D-Don't leave me--- don't -- git --.."

The plea in Arthur's voice nearly broke Francis. He gripped the pirate in a tight embrace, simultaneously shielding him and keeping them both connected, even if it was only through touch. Pressing his lips to Arthur's ear, he rocked them both gently for a few moments.
"No," he said, once Arthur's trembling subsided somewhat. "I will never leave you for as long as you need me." His voice dropped to a near inaudible whisper. "For as long as you want me."

"idiot--" Arthur can only find the strength to whimper, and before he knows it, he's kissing Francis, hard and desperately and sweetly, before burying himself desperately against the other, hiding all over again.
"i-i'd have rather died with you than b-be... be l-left---"
"idiot." he breathes, calming down a little. His shoulders heave calmly.
"I love you."

Francis froze as the words sunk in, filling and expanding his heart, letting its echoes caress his ears. The most beautiful words in the world, and they came from Arthur.
Francis was suddenly aware that they were breathing deeply in sync, and wondered if their heartbeats pounded in the same rhythm. He drew back and studied Arthur's face in the faint moonlight. His thumb brushed away the tear tracks, committing every detail of the moment to memory.
"By tomorrow, the whole city - if not the whole world - will know how I feel about you," he said softly. "How much you mean to me. And - and right now, as foolish as it is, I could care less."
With a sigh, Francis leaned forward until his forehead brushed Arthur's. "But you've known that for a long time now, haven't you?"

Arthur can only find himself sniffling pathetically, barely restraining a whimper as their foreheads touch. He finds himself getting lost in the Noble's eyes, as though he just realised their true beauty for the first time. Of course, he loved Francis' eyes. They were deep and blue and reminded him both of the sea and sky, and just reminded him of Home, the closest one he'd ever had. But there was something just... amazing about them.
He just keeps clinging to the male, sniffling.
"idiot." Is all he can muster, enveloping himelf in the scent of him.
"d-don't leave m-me--"
It took him till now, but he was terrified of being alone. Of Francis leaving him.
