Valerio stretched his arms and yawned. Only half an hour ago he was sleeping in his bed, and now he was here, in the trade district. He had to get a special delivery, and therefore he now had no idea what to do with the rest of the day. There were few people in the street, and most of them seem to be headed towards their shops, maybe for work? "Affamato.. I'm so hungry." His stomach growled for food, and he realized how hungry he was. He looked around for a shop where he could buy some food he could bring home, but he couldn't find any. He did find a small restaurant, that would do for now. Maybe he could meet a pretty girl instead? Treat her to dinner and bring her home. That would be something. He would really settle for that plan, but first, food!

Very few people were up and about, as usual. Mattie always insisted that no one come in to open Al's with him; there was no need. He didn't want his employees to get bored, and, the bigger part of it was... he didn't want to have to make small talk. He could handle one or two customers on his own; usually, those that were in this early kept to themselves, made minimal conversation, ate, and left. He didn't have to do much.
At the moment, he was busy pulling chairs off tables and wiping the tables down. The sign was flipped to open; but no one had come in yet, so Mattie saw no reason to cook anything. He'd eaten something small at home, and he had his coffee and maple syrup. He didn't need anything else now - but when he got an order for pancakes... he'd make himself some too.
Valerio opened the door to the small restaurant and smiled. "Ciao!" He said as he entered, and walked over to the person standing behind the desk. He was a rather young looking man, maybe a part-time worker here? Valerio didn't care, he just wanted some food. "Do you serve breakfast?" He had hoped for something good, like pancakes or a salad. And of course, a cup of coffee.

Mattie looked up as the door opened. He'd been talking quietly with Kumajiro, but the bear had gotten silent the instant the bell rang. "...Good morning... welcome to Al's." The boy greeted quietly, smiling hesitantly. The customer wouldn't know that the smile was slightly forced; Mattie had never seen this boy before.
"... I do... anything you like, I can make... though pancakes are sort of the house specialty..." Mattie fidgeted slightly. "... um... here." He reached below the counter and pulled out a menu, offering it to the customer. "... Just... let me know what you decide. ... Ah... I'm Mattie. I'll be your server this morning...."
