Walking along the think walls, Adèlie had to crane her neck to look at the top. Her endless walking, steps consumed by a million thoughts, had brought the young woman to the borders of the military District, and running her fingers across the fortified walls, she couldn’t help but consider the possibly that her late father had walked these same cobblestones. The blonde frowned at that thought, her thoughts turning sad when her mind turned towards the slow death of her mother and then the sudden death of the father she hardly knew. Sighing, shutting her eyes to rid her sights of the cold walls and looming high buildings of the Military, Adèlie stopped her stroll, lifted her hand to tuck a stray hair to fall behind her ear, before reopening her blue eyes which now held now tinge of the sadness that had been seeping into them before.
In the middle of s sidewalk, in public, was no place to think of such melancholy thoughts that was meant for the privacy of her home. Crossing her arms across her small waist, her petite form sheathed in a lovely dress of bright blue, a shade similar to the of the sky, and adorning her shoulders was a thick, though intricate shawl that did its duty of fighting off the slight chill of the winter air. Allowing her gaze to float around, the woman saw pairs of couples walking about, a group of militarized men conversing, a man selling papers pertaining to the recent news. People going places while she stood idly near the main gate of the entrance to the Military District. Occasionally a rather handsome man would walk by her, all dressed up in uniform and she had to force herself to not stare. She wasn’t there to stand on the corner like other women… no! She was just there to rest, to take in the sights thus including any good-looking men in uniform.
Focusing once more upon the main gate to the Military, she visualized the vivid image she had of her father, from the only time she had seen him though then he hadn’t been in uniform so not to be identified from afar, and dressed him in the same attire as the men standing by the gate. It fit perfectly and unbeknownst to her, Adèlie was staring at empty space to watch her dead father walk dutifully towards the entrance and through the metal of the gate.
Once more she sighed, though this one reflected her cheerless mood. She really ought to keep moving.
