° D-istrict || Underground
° P-ersonality ||
Lukas is a quiet man, not really interested in others around him. He doesn't speak much to others unless he finds it necessary and "worth his time". He is generally very busy, always trying to find something to keep himself occupied.
One way he keeps himself occupied is...well, reading. He does own a bookstore, which he is very fond of. In his earlier years of having it, at any point he could have just given it up and gone home, but no, he stuck with it. Lukas is a very determined man, once he has a goal he will do his best to make sure he reaches it. Though, he knows when all hope is lost in a cause and only then will he back down. Until he gets some sign his efforts are worthless, he will keep going.
He's intelligent, always thinking "How does it work?", "Can it be improved?", "Can you change the design entirely, inside and out, and have it serve the same purpose as before?", and the like. Usually he spends his free time tinkering rather than walking around the city. He usually makes small things made of clockwork, improving the older ones when he has the chance. He keeps a journal of his designs so when he does improve something, he has a reference to look at.
He is rather indifferent, coming off as "blunt" and "rude" to others. Many times he has been told to change his "attitude" though he finds no need to, since he finds no problem with it himself. Lukas couldn't care less how many people are fond of him or not and doesn't take his father's wishes under any sort of consideration.
Lukas is also very secretive. He doesn't want people to know a lot about him or his past, which is why he goes by the name "Magnus Johansen". Besides, his past isn't their business in the first place. Why should he tell people he doesn't even know, or trust, these sort of things? Even if it comes to his thoughts, he doesn't voice them nor does he show them on his face. He keeps a rather expressionless look, though if one were to look deeply into his eyes they might find some sort of emotion hidden behind locks and combinations.
He's always looking out for his younger brother. One could even say protective. The guy means a lot to Lukas, since he's the only one he thinks of as true family. Whether or not his aid is needed, he will always make sure to have time to help out his brother.
He has a level-head in most situations, thinking things through logically than acting on impulse. He doesn't let his emotions get in the way of decisions...usually. It's rather hard to make him show his anger, though when upset he has very violent tendencies. From throwing things to attempting to strangle someone with their tie to hitting them over the head with whatever is accessible. No one sees his little "fits" coming, they never do.
° L-ikes ||
•Books - Doesn't matter the genre, he loves them all. The smell of ink on paper is his favorite, not once does he get tired of it. Literature is a thing of beauty, lasting as long as people continue to write. Books last as long as you let them, treat them well and they will last you many years. They're a ticket to foreign places, existant or not. Whether it's an adventure it contains or a tragic tale of love, one can't be sure what it is until they have a look and lose themself in the text.
•Coffee - He likes the taste of bitter black coffee over those boiled bags of leaves. How can people like tea over coffee anyway? It has caffeine, yeah, but not as much as opposed to coffee. Besides, it usually doesn't really taste all that good without a ton of sugar, as which for coffee it's fine no matter how you try to drink it.
•The Supernatural - He has always found the topic interesting, and always serve to bring back good memories. He used to read fairytales to his younger brother, so perhaps that's the main reason he's so fond of it. If you were to ask him about a certain creature, no doubt would he be able to give details about it without having a reference.
•Nature - He prefers to be outside than trapped indoors, which he is forced to do because of his job. He would like to take a stroll through or park, or even a forest, in his free time, which he barely even has. Well, at least he can look out the window and stare at the sky while having a slow day at his shop.
•Tinkering - It's a nice way to pass time without leaving the security of indoors. He finds it amusing, so see what he can create out of gears and scraps of metal. Though, he doesn't really like showing off his works since he thinks they're all "works in progress", even when they seem complete.
° D-islikes ||
•Social events - He isn't really the social type. Strangers will probably get a few words out of him, a decent conversation if they're lucky. Social events are just useless, in his opinion, since they serve nothing more but to show off what you have to other people. He's glad he doesn't have to go them anymore.
•Crowds - A big city means there's bound to be a lot of people holed up in one place. Usually people can get lost in them, as in if you're being chased down a crowd can usually serve as a getaway. For him, not so much. He sticks out like a sore thumb because of his eye color.
•Tomfoolery - It's innefficient and simply childish. It does nothing but cause trouble, not to mention it's annoying as well. If all else, this is one of the few things that can get him mad in no time.
•Nobles - He never liked how they put themselves before others, thinking that they're so high and mighty. Some of them were alright, but the rest were just...infuriating. He's glad he doesn't have to be around such people any more.
° F-ears ||
•Mirrors - Mirrors have a lot of lore around them, from bad luck when smashing one to being a gateway to your trueself. Which ever one you believe doesn't matter, since Lukas hates them all. He feels as though they will show others that he's not who he says he is. He thinks that no one should know what's going on in his head. That's why he tries to avoid them, though if he sees one he will ask for it to be covered, if it isn't he'll smash it to bits.
•Thunderstorms - He doesn't like them, not one bit. The sound is just deafening, he'll freeze if he sees lightning or hear thunder. He'll hide underneath something until it goes away, sometimes even going as far as to cling to the nearest person. If he's out and about, he'll rush to find some cover and just pray for the rain to go away.
•Abandonment - The last thing he wants is to be alone, for his friends and brother to leave him and cut all ties. Sure, he could make new friends, but his brother he can't replace. His brother means a lot to him, and if he were to severe all communication with him, he's not sure what he would do...
° G-oals ||
• For His Business to be Successful - He gave up all he had for it, and he had more than everything. The place means everything to him, and he just wants to see it do good. He isn't asking to be known throughout the city, just to be good enough so that people visit often enough.
• Avoid Falling in Love for as Long as Possible - Love will just get in the way of things, it might even make him take unnecessary risks. Yeah, he would like to fall in love at some point, but not when there's so much going on. Besides, how can he be in a relationship if he's a lie his very self. Surely the other wouldn't like to know that their beloved lied about everything, his past and his very own name, and expect him to not be lying about his feelings.
• Enjoy His Chosen Lifestyle - He doesn't regret leaving his Noble life, in fact he's actually grateful he did. He doesn't have to have someone wait on him hand-and-foot and make him feel incapable of doing anything. Sure he had what he wanted handed to him on a silver platter, but he didn't do anything to deserve it. All he did was ask.
° H-istory ||
Born into a Noble family, Lukas had a very good life. He was spoiled, especially at the time he was the only child. Though, he did get a lot of expectations put on him. When his brother was born, being the new baby most spoiling went towards him. Lukas didn't mind, he wasn't all that fond of the attention anyway. Being the oldest, even more expectations was put on him. He was supposed to do good, marry another Noble and have a very profitable job.
All of it seemed superficial to him. He could never see himself be as important as his parents wanted him to. He wanted to be a regular kid, be able to play outside without being scolded. He wanted a normal life, not one full of high expectations and unneeded luxuries.
Even from a young age he enjoyed reading. It was his only getaway from all the stress he had on his shoulders. He used to read to his younger brother when he was a child, making sure to not say the same story twice. He dreamed that one day he would be able to live how he wanted, but that wouldn't happen. Well, unless he took matters into his own hands.
So he ran. At the age of 17, he had enough with it all. All of the scolding, all of the forcing, all of the rules, all of the attention. He just grabbed some cash, some belongings, and ran, not once turning back. He would start a new life, one he would actually enjoy. Though, he couldn't go around with his name, since surely he would be dragged back to his parents.
He made himself one. Magnus Johansen. A new name for a new start, a new person who has nothing to fear but the past that will haunt him. Starting out was a bother, but he soon found a nice building. It was little compared to the others around it, but it wasn't so small that it was unnoticeable. He stepped inside and found that it was a bookstore, run by an elderly woman.
He had a small conversation with her, and through it learned a lot of things about her. Her name was Margaret Haynes. She was in her late sixties and had been running the shop for over thirty years. She was a kind, frail woman who was the most optimistic person he's ever met. Before he knew it, the conversation was over and she hired him.
The next six years he worked for her, carrying boxes and putting books on the shelves while she sat behind the counter and dealt with transactions. By the time she passed while he was 23, he took over the business for her. He knew how things run, and since no one else seemed interested in it, he was the best choice.
Doing everything by himself was a bit tricky, but he slowly adjusted to the schedule he had. Everything became a routine, though when he became a Ruthian everything sort of shifted around a little. He was already living in the Underground, since living elsewhere could lead to someone recognizing him as "Lukas" rather than "Magnus". Then again, as far as most people knew "Lukas" didn't exist, and if all else he was dead. Though, there are times his past comes to haunt him...
A few times he's seen his parents in town, and quickly he manages to barely escape the area before they see him. He has some sort of contact with his brother, though most of the things he says is vague. He doesn't want the guy to go searching for him or anything...and especially find out he's helping out the Ruthians.
° R-oleplay example ||
Carry boxes, sort out books, reorganize shelves, keep up with what's in stock, run transactions, his day is almost never done. He always moves around the shop, from one place to another. Not once does he break his movements, all of them running smoothly and rather quickly. Sometimes he even needs to go from one task to another, only to go back to the first to finish that. It was tedious to do it all on his own, thought he didn't mind. He rather liked the work, to be busy and constantly having something to do. It was a nice, to say the least.
He only paused when he heard a small chime from the door, signaling someone had entered the building. He would glance over to see who it was before going back to his work, making sure to be easily found at any time in case the person needed something. It wouldn't do good if they wanted help finding a book and he was nowhere to be seen. He wouldn't drop everything to give them aid, though. They would have to wait a bit until he reaches a point that is alright to stop without any unwanted consequences.
Today, though, was a bit of a slow day. There wasn't much to do, so he was stuck behind the counter for most of the day. He distracted himself with books he's read many times before, it wouldn't be a surprise if he knew everything word for word.
Time went by slowly, the ticking of the clock ringing like a bell in his brain. The seconds seemed like decades, minutes like centuries, hours like ages. It was unbearable. The ticks slowly became a lullaby, as if trying to make him doze off. The temptation of rest slowly lapped at him as if it were the ocean and he was on the shore, the cool waters trying to drag him in slowly. A few times, he found himself yawning, but he couldn't afford to sleep on the job, even when a nap seemed like a well enough idea.
He stretched slightly and reclined slightly in his chair. At least the day would be over soon, then he could go home and finally rest. But until then, all he could do was wait until closing. Until then, he was stuck behind that counter.
