Atheros is an island nation, distant enough to remain rather isolated, but close enough to the nearest continent to have ongoing trade with to its west. It has a number of smaller islands around it, most notably The Isles to the north of Granor. Granor is the capital of Atheros and is known to be a port town and the center of the economy.
Granor rests on the eastern part of Alizarin Bay, residing on the top of a cliff. The City used to just be The Castle many centuries back, but had outgrown the city walls and kept on growing. The walls still remain, forming the barrier for the Central part of the city. Another notable feature of the city is the large river running through it, the Wedgwood River. It runs horizontally through the city, splitting it into the North and South regions before reaching the old castle walls and running parallel to them and down the side of the bay to the ocean.
Outside the city is mostly farmland as well as the actual sea port to the southwest of the city. While it isn't used as much since the development of airships, it's still important enough that there's a small town around it. The Isles holds several small towns mostly funded by the pirates that run them. Surrounding The Isles are a number of whirlpools forming a natural (or unnatural depending on who you ask) barrier around them keeping the inhabitants safe.
The City itself is split into three regions divided by the river and in those regions are many districts, each specializing in some area of expertise. Within each district is a military outpost, with a number of guards who act as the police in each district.
Underneath the city is a near labyrinth of tunnels, originally a cave system that was used as an escape route by the nobles in cases when the castle was under siege. More people discovered them though and soon enough there was a good number of people making there own homes underground where it was cheaper. It is used by the Ruthians a lot as it is one of the few places guaranteed to have no guards roaming it.
Granor is very gold-themed. The traditional crest of the city was that of a lion so the people took to that color to show their pride for their hometown. The only contrast you'll find is the government buildings, which are blue and silver-themed to go with their own crest of the dragon. The Ruthians go with red, bronze, and black to represent their own crest, that of a phoenix rising out of the ashes.
